VISION & MISSION

WARIS is a not-for profit society and its mission statement is `Helping people, saving lives`.It supports wellness of people as well as disease prevention, not only for heart diseases but also for other general and specialized diseases. It also supports and promotes trans-radial interventions to save lives.

WARIS is helped in its work not only by Doctors from India and overseas; many national and international organizations, including Lions as well as Rotary Clubs of India, and various hospitals help in this mission voluntarily.

An important charitable agenda for WARIS in the last decade and also in the current decade has been to STOP HEART ATTACK.

The Community Intervention Services Program.

This program helps people to assess their risk factors for heart-disease; as many potential heart disease patients are unaware of their risk. Assessing their cardiovascular risk helps guide appropriate interventions and prevention.

The program is managed by a team of volunteers including doctors, nurses, technicians and other healthcare professionals. For the purpose, camps are organized with the cooperation of several voluntary organizations and regional, as well as, local networks.

WARIS runs charitable outpatient clinic services in rural, semi-rural and urban areas and holds Free Heart Check camps to serve the populations in various regions of the country: Gurgaon, Rewari, Bhiwadi, Agra, Alwar, Chomu, Gurgaon, Hisar, Kota, Jhansi, Jaipur, Sri Ganganagar, Jodhpur , Lucknow, Bikaner, and other regions. This program is supported by various institutions and helps the people by getting the super-specialist cardiologists to the people for detection and management of disease; rather than the people reaching the doctors since unfortunately, many lack the means to reach such specialist doctors.

Awareness program for public and healthcare professionals

WARIS creates awareness on wellness and prevention of disease; especially regarding heart disease, its risk factors and also about prevention of heart attack. Awareness is created in the public through public lectures and mass media communication, both print and electronic media. This includes coverage through newspapers, pamphlet distribution, press conferences, interviews as well as inserts on television; besides video circulation on cable television, and finally, coverage on regional and national television news. Similarly, Continuing Medical Education(CME) Programs are held for Physicians, Cardiologists and General Practitioners, and other healthcare professionals in Rewari, Bhiwadi, Agra, Alwar, Chomu, Gurgaon, Hisar, Kota, Jhansi, Jaipur, Sri Ganganagar, Jodhpur, Lucknow, Bikaner, Kolkata and other parts of the country for the purpose of education and to create awareness not only about heart attack and its prevention but also about other aspects of cardiology and about transradial interventions, its advantages and recent advances in the field of interventional cardiology.

Cardiovascular disease, including heart attacks and strokes are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in India. A very high incidence of cardiovascular risk factors, including tobacco abuse, hypertension, and dyslipidemia are responsible. Lack of awareness regarding the risk factors and preventive measures is responsible for the high prevalence and incidence of cardiovascular disease.

The program is managed by a team of volunteers including doctors, nurses, technicians and other healthcare professionals. For the purpose, camps are organized with the cooperation of several voluntary organizations and regional, as well as, local networks.

WARIS aims to create awareness to mitigate suffering of the people by preventing disease and promoting wellness.

As part of the `STOP HEART ATTACK` campaign, other than creating awareness about the `Dos and Don’ts ` to prevent heart attack, WARIS also creates awareness about the symptoms of a heart attack and about appropriate immediate initial response at the grass root level to optimize survival of patients, since in a heart attack, time is muscle.

WARIS also promotes Transradial Intervention, and conducts workshops since 2007 which were initially called India Radial Blitz.

The 1st workshop was held at Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi in 2007. At the India Radial Blitz 2008, at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi the theme was `Size matters`.
